The Artists’ Code
01:24
|
|||
There is a rhythm to creating. A sacred pact you should know. It goes unsaid among artists like honor among thieves - it’s an unbreakable code. If you are working with an artist - out of protocol- the art is part of them - their goals and soul.
It’s like taking candy from a baby to make changes to an artist’s piece without giving the artist a chance to react or speak. To change an artists' work will win you their ire - it’s like petting a growling dog and then wondering why they bite - ignoring their desire.
When you make changes to a project without consent - any artist you work with would be upset as they will feel their process is breached - they’ll now want to draw blood like a leech.
To avoid invoking the artist’s rage make sure your intentions are clearly made. Let the artist know you want to edit their piece - make it a contract and something concrete.
If the artist is working for free with no contract,
be willing to give the artist space to not get hissed at. The artist is helping you out of respect and you should show respect too. Don’t overstep the boundaries they drew or they will feel they were wronged and show their claws. Please respect this unwritten law.

One movement everything is fine
But any second I could lose my mind
The black pit inside creates dread
Overwhelmed by wishing I was dead.
Feelings of worthlessness consume me
I am haunted more deeply than a banshee
Light disintegrates to endless dark
My heart and soul exposed and stark.
I don't know why I am sent to that place
I lose my breath, my pulse begins to race
Anxiety overcomes me as there is no escape
A nightmare reality in my head takes shape.
I wish this feeling would go away
I wish happiness and joy would stay
But so quickly can a happy moment change
Memories of past glee seem so strange.
It feels like blackness is all I've known
In this emptiness, isolated, alone
Darkness unfolds, my being is consumed
There is no future and everything is doomed.
We lose too many to this black hole
our brain chemicals are out of our control
there are things you can do to help us through
Remember, using correct pronouns make us less blue.

Cruising on Craigslist
I was checking out the ads in the musician section
found an ad with an opinion of objection
It was a post about how Joe sold out
because he used his clout
to see that Brittney returned to her family
Rescued from her Kremlin calamity
So this guy wanted a song to call Joe out
As the rescue gave him reason to shout
Brittney was locked away for having cannabis oil
she had accidentally packed which caused her turmoil
for 294 days in Russia she was detained
Until a prisoner exchange freed her from her chains.
There is no excuse for Brittney being held so long
Everyone knows she was used as a political pawn
Her sentencing didn’t reflect just laws
still Joe got her out and that deserves applause.
The real issue here is that Brittney is black and queer
And to survive she had to go to Russia for her career
as she is paid less - a lot less than her male peers.
If there was equality - there wouldn't have been any tears.
Where is the discussion for equal rights?
The news didn’t cover how hard her family had to fight
And now this bloke online has the audacity
to say that Joe betrayed us by giving Brittney amnesty.
With the cruel ad you posted,
with the harsh words you boasted,
Shows that you’re conditioned
to put up walls and cause division.
There is NOTHING to debate.
There is no love quite like Christian hate.
You forfeit your right have your views
When promoting violence against LGBTQ.
You’re apart of a complex chain-reaction
your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions
So stop your thoughts and choose silence
It is how you can help stop oppression and end the violence.
I want no more grief because of your beliefs.
Trying to get you to understand is like pulling teeth
Silence is the cross you need to carry
for a world less scary
Or let me put this another way,
It’s you who needs to be prayed away.
