Once was a caterpillar who looked to the sky. The caterpillar needed to fly. “I’m a butterfly,” said their voice inside. The caterpillar knew they were a butterfly.

The other caterpillars laughed at their friend. They all knew: they could only be caterpillars; as they were taught that in school. To their classmates it was a rule.

The lonely caterpillar didn’t know what to do.
They were struggling with knowing their truth.
None of their classmates understood
Thought their friend was hangry and needed more food.

The more the caterpillar ate, the more they cried as they knew they were a butterfly inside.

“What’s wrong, friend?” asked an apple tree.
The caterpillar explained their feelings.
The tree listened with empathy
bobbing apples while listening.

“Friend,” said the tree with certainty.
“You can be a butterfly and fly free. Did anyone tell you that was your destiny?”

“What do you mean?” asked the caterpillar.

“Just as a tree sprouts from a seed, so do brave caterpillars get their wings.”

“Why are you the first to tell me this? Why wasn’t I taught in school? I was taught only to eat and now I feel like a fool!”

The apple tree sighed and explained, “It’s illegal to say butterfly in school. If all caterpillars knew they could change, it wouldn’t be so strange. It would simply be that you’re coming of age cuz you were born that way.”

The caterpillar exclaimed, “Oh dear, oh dear, do they know that their fears cause us pain and tears? I will teach everyone who will hear!”

The tree sighed. The tree confined, ”Everybody knows. Everybody knows. The bullies aren’t as numerous as they seem. Find your family. Find your team. There are beautiful beings out there in the land. You’ll come to understand.”

The caterpillar now knew their purpose. They knew they most spread love. The caterpillar took a nap and their metamorphosis begun.

Upon waking, the butterfly took flight. Upon waking, the butterfly took flight. There was their butterfly visibility. They were the light.
